(More customer reviews)A very thorough book on an icon of United States maritime history to add to any collection. There is a lot of information that you don't find in other books written on the ship. It focuses anywhere from the planning put into the ship, the glory years, and the sad final voyages. The book is well written, with the forward by Susan Gibbs, daughter of the genius naval architect that designed the ship. The book is mostly written information, but still contains many photos. I believe is was originally published to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the SS United States, which still sits laid up in Philadelphia.
