Be ready to feel deep emotions while reading this loving book John Elliott has written about his father, Henry H. Elliott, Jr., who graduated from the US Naval Adademy in Annapolis, MD in 1939.
Hitler had begun his planned ascent to overtake the world. Henry's personal battle against Hitler, as he worked undercover, nearly cost him his life. But as his son, John, relates through many heart-warming tales about his family, his dad didn't explain the complexity of his dangerous involvement in fighting the Nazis until he was much older.
This story so clearly illustrates complexities of love within a family. And John's reflections of life with his dad will open your heart and rekindle memories of your loved ones, filled with laughter and warmth.

Never Hold Discussions With The Monkey_ Life According to Dadis dedicated to my father. Dad was always something of a quiet presence. Without being loud or brash like so many lesser people, Dad was always recognized as the brains of the outfit. Quiet and unassuming, Dad was the chief architect in the formation of his children s characters and personalities. Dad showed his love in many ways over the years and, even though he died in 2003, still does today. If you view the family unit as something of a business enterprise, Dad would be its Chief Executive Officer. Even today, after his passing, he continues to influence the family in many wonderful ways.

Mauch's Sailboat Guide, Vol. III Review

Mauch's Sailboat Guide, Vol. III

Vol 3 of the 3 volume series. (Vol #1 is ISBN# 0-9642621-0-X,Vol #2 is ISBN# 0-9642621-1-8) To get complete information on anysingle manufacturer you need all 3 volumes. There is alot ofinformation missing (which could probably be gleaned from other brokers files in cooperative effort) but that said there is a lot here. Hopefully for ease of use these will be combined into one volume on any future reprints. Also I hope Ms. Mauch continues work on and expand these volumes to add additional manufacturers, models, and specific interior, exterior, sail plan, number of hulls built, and general quality of construction information for any future reprints (and I promise I'll buy and new edition). The other thing I think would fill a serious void is information on company history, specifically, who has gone out of business, been boughtout or merged. These are great books for recreational sailboat lovers and students of the genre, worth the price. END

Excellent book. Every Southerner--no, every American--should read this book. Smith has done us a great favor. Southern baby boomers will especially appreciate the best explanation I've read of why things are the way they are in the South today. Smith makes history an enjoyable read.

Completely ORIGINAL! Beautifully written - a wonderful, wonderful love story - thrilling. If you like Emily Bronte and Wuthering Heights, you will LOVE this book because it is written with as much passion and intensity and intelligent perceptiveness. I love the characters, the kites, the curse, the uniqueness of the story, the uniqueness of Ginie Sayles and her writing style - and I love the sexy fantasy of it all. Unlike any other - As I said Bronte-esk passion

Frommer's New England's Best-Loved Driving Tours Review

Frommer's New England's Best-Loved Driving Tours
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We loved this book! It has a number of driving tours that take you to highlights in each state. It has a couple of really nice features. The first, although we didn't stick to it very much, is the time suggested for the trip. They did suggest 2 days for the Southern Vermont tour. We did it in one day but only because we didn't stop in all the little towns suggested by the book. The book does not have much detail on each place so I would suggest a second "guide book" for more details and hotel/restaurant suggestions but the driving tours and directions were accurate and had good 'stop here' suggestions.

President of the Underground Railroad (Creative Minds Biography) Review

President of the Underground Railroad (Creative Minds Biography)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This book simplifies a lot of the message about the Underground Railroad, its origins and its methods. In fact, not enough information was given about the clever ways that people were helped to freedom.
The book is a biography of Levi Coffin, and it goes into graphic detail about his memories of the mistreatment of slaves. You need to be ready for your child to read about a man being beaten with a burning log, about another man who is chained and then has his hand held to a hot blacksmith's anvil and beaten with a hammer until he submits, as well as the more typical (for this age range) information about families being separated and enslavement being wrong. Also, Levi's wife has an extramarital affair, which is specifically mentioned in the book.
This book leaves out the material that would be interesting for children at this reading level (how the underground railroad works) and offers too much that is above their maturity level.
Parents need to pre-read this. Second and third graders can decode all the words (and the illustrations are interesting at this reading level), but the subject matter is geared toward 6th grade or higher.

This is an absolute must read for anybody who grew up in the sixties, or for that matter anybody who treasures the memory of their teens. All the crazy stuff that kids do is here and thrown in for good measure is a true life story of John Christianson, the books main character. What makes a good book? "Start with a good title, find a good picture for the cover, open with a good opening sentence, close with a good closing sentence and fill it up with lots of good stuff in between." Tangents has it all.

The Way of Truth 1925 Review

The Way of Truth 1925
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

About a year before her death, the Countess Bela Zichy -- nee, Mabel Elizabeth Wright (New York 31 Aug 1869-Budapest 23 Dec 1926) -- published this combination of memoirs and theosophical insights. Divided into two parts, the Past and the Present, Countess Zichy presents the case for spiritual guidance of a reincarnating soul. No matter how one feels about such an approach to spirituality, the books is a helpful account of the life of one of the more interesting women of a century ago.
Born to a wealthy New England family, Mabel Wright was first the wife of socialite Fernando Yznaga in what we might term the "Gibson Girl" era. Together, the couple lived a high society life of endless parties and entertainments, including seasons in New York and Newport, RI. This life the author found to be a hollow one, and by chance or design she was introduced to the concept of being a channel for written messages from the spirit world.
An adept student in this activity, Mabel came to believe that her way in life was determined and would be shown to her at the proper time. She then recounts her meeting with Count Bela Maria Rudolf Zichy, their subsequent romance and marriage, with the underpinning belief that their souls had been together ages beforehand in ancient Egypt.
The book is valuable as a slice of social history as well as a record of the Countess's spiritual journey.

The Eating Disorder Solution Review

This is by far the best book I have ever read on the subject of eating disorders. I learned a great deal about how to support my loved one who suffers from morbid obesity. God Bless you for sharing your wisdom.

An eating disorder is a problem that causes families, friends, and treatment providers considerable confusion and frustration.
This paradoxical and confounding problem has often gone misunderstood and, as a result, mistreated for as long as it has been in existence. This book sets forth a creative and simple way for families and caregivers to understand what an eating disorder actually is, how to think about it in healing, helpful ways, and provides one facet of the total solution to understanding the true nature of an eating disorder.Because it is too difficult to fight something you cannot see, this book proposes a way to 'see' the invisible thought process called an eating disorder.Eating disorders are treatable as long as the disparity and depth of misunderstanding of all involved in the healing process are removed. The Eating Disorder Solution is a positive contribution to the growing effort to eradicate eating disorders.

When the book arrived from Amazon, I greedily ripped the shipping box open, pulled the book out and did a quick search for photos. To my disappointment, the photos where printed very poorly on stock paper. Not the type of thing you want to see when trying to reconnect to your youthful days in Dexter, Maine. This said, I will now tell you what I liked about the rest of the book - EVERYTHING! From her frank and honest thoughts about special youthful moments and times she shared with family members and friends. To her detail description of Dexter locations that hold a ton of memories for her and for all of us that spent our youth there in the 50s. Very thought provoking read which takes you though a huge range of emotional feeling. Sometimes very funny and sometimes very sad, but mostly a well balanced range that gives a true feeling of that time and place.

Ranelagh Review

The first line of this superb read is what will rock you, a vivid description of an eagle targeting his prey over Glendalough south of Dublin. The writing is so crystal clear, I was transported and like Avatar's heroine, I was flying with the eagle. Like an epic movie, the history of Irish warlords to present day heroes unfolds with specifics for the history buffs and delicious storylines for the romantic. If you are Irish or have fallen in love with one, you have to read RANELAGH.

Guide To Fishing West Canada Creek And Its Tributaries Review

Guide To Fishing West Canada Creek And Its Tributaries
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For many fishermen, the sport isn't so much about catching buckets of fish as understanding the water and the factors that contribute to the piscine life within it. This short, micro-published book adds vital information to that ideal, at least with regard to West Canada Creek, one of the top trout streams in New York.
There's a short, precis-style history of the river and its fisheries and a section-by-section rundown of the most popular and/or productive areas of the river and the streams that feed it. More importantly, there's solid advice about river-reading and fish behavior, gleaned from several life-long West Canada fishermen and the author's own long experience on the river. It contains special advice for fishing with bait, lures, and flies, including a consensus on the top choices for each.
The writing is clear and concise, but it could use more editing for grammatical errors. Likewise the maps are in a confusing order and are difficult to use, but they provide the relevant information well enough to use them with supplemental maps.
The best thing about the Guide is the author's efforts to dig deeper into the river's fishing lore and to explore its upper reaches and smaller tributaries. It's much more than a list of the most crowded fishing spots: its insights open the whole river to the angler's imagination.

A field guide to fishing one of New York's top ten trout streams. Features 96 pages of information, photographs, illustrations, charts and maps designed to help anglers catch monster trout and river smallmouths --- on lures, flies and bait. Twenty pages of maps pinpoint fishing hotspots, public fishing areas, parking areas, highways, roads, foot trails, bridges, dams, campsites and sport shops. Although the author has more than 30 years experience fishing this 76-mile long stream, he consulted old journals and reports, walked and talked with old-timers and young outdoor adventurers who know the water well, picked the brains of fisheries biologists, and even took a helicopter flight to gain a unique perspective of this 76-mile upstate river.
