Abraham Whipple was one of the key characters in the founding of the American Navy in October 1775, and this is the first in-depth look at his exciting life. The author writes well, and covers the subject thoroughly. Whipple continued to be a naval hero until close to the end of the Revolution, when he and his powerful ships were captured as part of the much larger surrender deal by the American army at Charleston.
